Online Abuse

Online abuse and digital harassment have become increasingly serious issues across football and social media platforms.

Football professionals, including scouts and analysts, may sometimes face criticism, intimidation, offensive behaviour, harassment, false accusations, or targeted abuse online. In some cases, online misconduct can negatively affect wellbeing, professional confidence, reputation, and career opportunities.

UPFSA encourages all members to use digital platforms professionally and responsibly while also recognising the importance of protecting individuals from abusive or inappropriate behaviour online. Members are expected to avoid defamatory, abusive, discriminatory, or harmful conduct across all forms of digital communication.

The Union also recognises the safeguarding risks associated with inappropriate online communication, particularly where minors or vulnerable individuals may be involved. Maintaining professional boundaries and responsible communication standards forms an important part of operating safely within football environments.
